In New York, the frequency of 98.7 is currently home to WRKS "Kiss-FM". Owned by Emmis Broadcasting, this station is home to a soft urban format featuring R&B; hits. Over the years, 98.7 was one of the most influential radio stations in New York history.
This site is intended to pay tribute in audio and pictures to the years between 1966 and 1981, when it was mainly a top 40 rock station. Starting first as an early AOR, then a Bill Drake consulted Top 40, WOR-FM was in essence the only FM hit station in the 60s. Later, beginning in 1972 and lasting until early 1981, the station was known as WXLO, or just 99X! It was the first FM station to apply serious ratings pressure to dominant AM top 40 king WABC.

Jay Thomas and Steve Martin enjoy playing with the listeners, and it shows. Thomas was one of the best morning men NYC ever had, but he had bigger plans, as evidenced by his TV career. More to come!
